There is no better place to focus on yoga than India: a magical country where the practice developed thousands of years ago.  This trip will allow you to experience the buzzing city of Delhi, the holy city of Varanasi, and Agra, the home of the Taj Mahal.  Throughout your journey, you will have the chance to learn from a variety of wellness specialists including yogis at a traditional ashram, an astrologer and an acupuncturist.  You will have the opportunity to practice yoga in truly memorable places, from the banks of the Ganges River to gazing at the Taj Mahal.

Itinerary - 9 Days

DAYS 1 and 2: U.S./Delhi
Welcome to India! Arrive into Delhi International Airport and transfer to The Claridges Hotel.  Spend your afternoon exploring or resting before meeting your group for a welcome dinner. (D)

 

DAY 3: Delhi

This morning, your group will participate in the first yoga session of the trip.  The experience will include an introduction to the teacher's style of yoga and will include time for questions.  In the afternoon, you will be introduced to traditional Indian holistic medical approaches, including reflexology and acupuncture, and experience the treatments for yourself.  Then it's time to delve into the history and culture of the destination through an introductory sightseeing tour. Last but not least, an exciting aerial yoga session awaits.

DAY 4: Delhi - Varanasi
Today after breakfast, head to the airport to board your flight to Varanasi.  Varanasi is a famous holy city and a pilgrimage destination for Hindus.  You will visit Sarnath where Buddha delivered his first sermon, and spend some time with Buddhist monks learning about their meditation practices. As the sun sets, you will board a boat on the holy Ganges River to witness the Aarti Ceremony — a 45-minute sung prayer and lamp lighting on the river.

DAY 5: Varanasi
Start the day with a yoga session overlooking the Ganges.  You will then visit an Ashram to learn more about the history and importance of yoga. After lunch, your group will do a walking tour of Varanasi.

DAY 6: Varanasi
Start this morning with an early boat ride while you witness hundreds of pilgrims wading into the water of the Ganges to worship the rising sun. Yoga and breakfast will follow, as well as a demonstration of traditional Indian wrestling called Kushti.  You'll have some time to relax this afternoon before visiting a music school — Varanasi is a mecca for arts and music.

DAY 7:  Varanasi - Agra
One last yoga session on the banks of the river before you head to the airport for your flight to Agra. Known for being home to the Taj Mahal and the Agra Fort, the architectural marvels in this city are endless. This evening you will visit the Taj Mahal at sunset before embarking on a nighttime tour of Agra.

DAY 8: Agra
This morning will be one to remember.  Your yoga practice will take place with the stunning backdrop of the Taj Mahal.  After breakfast, visit the Agra Fort followed by lunch and a private session with an astrologer before dinner.

Day 9 - Agra - Delhi - US
One last yoga practice this morning before driving back to Delhi.  Day rooms will be booked at an airport hotel where you can relax until catching your flight home.

Accommodations are based on double occupancy. If you prefer single accommodations, and if such are available, you can pay a single supplement as listed above.
